Allowances, fuel and winter break: everything that changes in France on November 1, 2022

Gas cut, fuel, energy check and snow tires… A lot of things will change today in France on November 1, 2022. Here is everything you need to remember.

November 1 is not just All Saints Day. This Tuesday, November 1, 2022 marks the beginning of all kinds of changes for the French men and women, whether in sectors such as energy, but also changes in more administrative areas, such as for the winter break or even allowances. family. To find your way around all these new features, follow the guide.

The start of the winter break

The winter break period begins on November 1, 2022 and lasts until March 31, 2023. During this break, exclusion procedures cannot take place, even in the event of several successive unpaid tenants. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule:

  • squatters occupying a home, whether a primary or secondary residence, or squatters occupying a garage or land,
  • the spouse whose eviction from the marital home has been ordered by the judge, in particular in the event of violence within the couple or against a child.

Similarly, energy suppliers do not have the right during this period to carry out power cuts, even in the event of unpaid bills. All electricity and natural gas suppliers are concerned. If they cannot completely cut off the current, they can however reduce it, but never below 3 kWh, and not for people benefiting from energy checks.

Fuel assistance is extended

Other good news for the French and French: the discount of 30 cents at the pump is extended. The price of gasoline has increased sharply since the beginning of the year, between inflation, strikes and geopolitical context. The extension of the government boost is welcome.

The rebate of 30 cents per liter of fuel was to drop on November 1, 2022, but Élisabeth Borne, the Prime Minister, finally announced its extension on October 16. Government assistance is extended until mid-November.

Snow tires are mandatory in some departments

Another important topic for drivers: snow tyres. These are now compulsory in mountain regions, as the government reminds us. More precisely, ” the prefects of the 48 departments located in mountain ranges (Alps, Corsica, Massif Central, Massif Jura, Pyrénées, Massif Vosgien) must draw up the list of municipalities in which vehicle equipment becomes compulsory in winter “. You can find the prefectural stops here.

For the municipalities and departments concerned, it is ” mandatory to equip your vehicle with winter tires or to have chains or snow socks from November 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023 “. If the obligation is in progress, there will not yet be a fine applied in 2022, as Numerama reminds us – but it is still necessary for your safety to be equipped.

The fuel energy checks will be distributed

Other good news: households using an oil heating system will be helped by the government. The measure is part of the energy shield introduced by the executive, and the households concerned will receive a fuel oil energy check, from 100 to 200 euros, from November 8. ” The amount of the check depends on household income (2020 income is taken into account) and the number of people in the household “, explains the government.

The repairability index is extended

From November 4, the repairability index is extended to new products. The repairability index was introduced in 2021 by the government as part of the anti-waste law. This is a scale, consisting of a score out of 10 and accompanied by a color code to indicate to consumers whether the product is repairable and how complicated the repair interventions are.

Since January 1, 2021, the repairability index concerns 5 product categories: front-loading washing machines, televisions, smartphones, laptops and lawnmowers. From November 4, 2022, this list is growing. The repairability index will be mandatory on:

  • top-loading washing machines;
  • dishwashers;
  • high-pressure cleaners;
  • corded, cordless and robot vacuum cleaners.

The family support allowance is increased

The family support allowance is increased by 50% from November 2022 “, announced the government. This aid is intended for parents who are raising one or more children on their own without child support.

From the beginning of November, the family support allowance will increase: it will increase from €122.93 to €184.41 per month and per child when raised by a single parent “, Indicates the site of the Public Service.
