Toilet paper manufacturer announces price increase

The products of the paper manufacturer Essity will be drastically more expensive in the future. The company announces this with reference to increased raw material and energy prices. Customers therefore have to dig deeper into their pockets for toilet paper, handkerchiefs and kitchen rolls.

Toilet paper, handkerchiefs and kitchen towels are likely to become significantly more expensive: Essity, a large manufacturer of hygiene paper, has announced drastic price increases. “We as Essity will have to increase prices by a total of almost 20 percent in order to compensate for the cost development,” said the head of the consumer goods business at Essity, Volker Zöller, the news portal “T-Online”. “What has happened in our industry in the last few weeks is no longer normal.”

The group justifies the price increases with significantly higher raw material and energy prices. Pulp prices in particular have “gone through the roof”. Then there are the current logistics problems. “The logistics prices have quadrupled in some cases. That made the situation even worse,” said Zöller.

“In the next few months the situation will not relax. Price increases are therefore inevitable,” said the company representative. Talks with retailers will soon be started, if not already done. “We have open contracts with most customers, so we can react more quickly. But long-term contracts also urgently need to be adapted,” emphasized Zöller. “I assume that the cost development will also be reflected in the shelf prices.” Essity sells brands such as Zewa, Tempo and Tork.
