Alone in The Dark: the stars of Killing Eve and Stranger Things lead the investigation in the remake of one of the most famous video games


Thirty-two years after the release of the game “Alone in The Dark”, one of the very first Survival Horror games which marked the history of video games, its remake in preparation is expected for next March. Pictures!

Released in 1992 and created by Frédérick Raynal, the game Alone in the Dark has left its mark on the world of video games. Adventure game in 3rd person view directly inspired by the immense author HP Lovecraft, it was one of the first games to represent playable characters in polygons in a precalculated environment.

A revolutionary game therefore, which will lead to several sequels, unfortunately with a rollercoaster ride. To date, there are no less than six games, including the last one, Alone in The Dark: Illuminationwas released in 2015. And, unfortunately, did not quite shine in the video game firmament.

Thirty-two years later, the publisher THQ Nordic, which now holds the license, is responsible for rekindling the flame since a remake of the very first game is currently in the works. Initially announced for release on October 25, 2023, this remake ultimately saw its release date pushed back a few months. The title is now expected for next March.

This new version sticks to the roots of the original game, and will offer two stories; one for each character. The pitch? After receiving a disturbing letter from her uncle, Jeremy Hartwood, Emily Hartwood seeks the help of private detective Edward Carnby to figure out what happened to her.

They visit the haunted Decerto field hospital, where Jeremy checked himself in after claiming to be prey to an evil entity called the Black Man. Emily also struggles with a mysterious family affliction known as the “Hartwood Curse,” and their visit soon turns into a fight for their sanity and their lives…

New gameplay images have been revealed by the Game Informer site; a little less than twenty minutes, to discover below.

The developers have offered themselves the services of Hollywood talents who lend their features and voices in the game. Jodie Comer leaves her medieval outfits from Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel to slip into the clothes of Emily Hartwood, while the actor David Harbor (Jim Hopper from Stranger Things, among others) plays private detective Carnby.
