Alone in the world: why was the shooting of the film interrupted for a year?

Broadcast Sunday, September 18, 2022 from 9:05 p.m. on 6ter, the film Alone in the world took a long time to see the light of day in theaters, because its filming had to be interrupted for a year. Télé Star explains to you today why.

After the cult film Forrest Gump, thanks to which he won the Oscar for best actor, Tom Hanks reunited with director Robert Zemeckis for the second time in his career a few years later, to interpret the main character of his new feature filmbaptized Alone in the world. In this film, the multi-award winning actor really gave of himself, as we can actually see on screen. French viewers will also be able to discover, or rediscover, the physical transformation of the actor for his role, since Alone in the world will be rebroadcast Sunday, September 18, 2022 from 9:05 p.m. on 6ter.

Given the theme of the film, the shooting of Alone in the world was quite unusual for the whole production. Beginning in Moscow in 1999, before emigrating to Los Angeles, and finally to Fiji, he had to be interrupted for a year. This prolonged stoppage of production was not the result of a problem, as is often the case on certain film sets, but indeed of a personal choice on the part of Robert Zemeckis. The filmmaker made the decision to wait a whole year in order to allow the necessary time to Tom Hanks to transform physically. The actor thus let his beard and hair grow, in order to look like a real castaway.

The American actor also took the opportunity to achieve the feat of losing a good twenty pounds. In the end, although the filming of Alone in the world spread over two years, it only really lasted 16 months, if we do not count its long interruption of one year. For his part, Robert Zemeckis wasted no time during this sabbatical year, given that the filmmaker took the opportunity to direct the thriller Appearancesworn by Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer.
