The 61-year-old occupant of the apartment had not paid his rent for six months, which alerted his landlord. The individual had actually been deceased for several years.

Le Figaro Nice

After several reminders due to unpaid rent for six months, the owner of an apartment located in the center of Cannes, in the Alpes-Maritimes, decided to meet his tenant. He therefore went there on the evening of January 27, where he found the door closed. After having forced the door of the property with the help of the firefighters, he made a macabre discovery since they fell on the corpse of the sexagenarian, lying on his bed, indicates to the Figaro a police source confirming information from Nice morning.

According to initial findings, the man in question had been dead for a long time, between one and four years. The police found a body “skeletonized” and “parchment”, adds the same source. Only a membrane of skin remained on his bones.

Autopsy

Regarding the smells, which could have alerted earlier to this death, the police specified that they generally disappear after a few months.

An autopsy should determine the causes of his death in the coming days. The individual was known to the police and justice services. The Grasse public prosecutor’s office has taken up the case and the Cannes police station is continuing its investigations.
