2021: a year of strong growth and development

Outlook for 2022: a double-digit growth rate

Alpha MOS announces its 2021 annual turnover of €5.57 million, up 54.3% compared to 2020 and 23.1% compared to 2019.

Alpha MOS’ full 2021 annual results will be released on April 29, 2022.

Consolidated data (in K€)

2021

2020

Turnover

5,569

3,609

Change %

54%

In fiscal year 2021, instrument sales represented

78%

of total turnover. The activity is balanced between the 4 regions in which the company operates as shown by the following breakdown:

  • US: 29% of annual turnover

  • EMEA: 24%

  • Japan: 24%

  • China: 23%

Revenue growth was very significant in North America:

Unlike 2020 when Asia drove sales, 2021 saw a return to growth in Europe and North America. Asia continued to develop well. The strong growth in 2021 in North America is notably the result of a judicious change of management, with a very good service-Opex/hardware-Capex distribution in this region. North America thus achieved the highest turnover of the Alpha MOS Group in 2021 (29% of the total).

Commercial dynamics have been the high point of Alpha MOS’ growth:

In 2021, Alpha MOS focused its commercial action on two major projects:

  • The growth of existing customer accounts (upselling) with repeated orders from certain major accounts (Coca-Cola, Estée Lauder, etc.).

This initiative represented

20%

from

  • The conquest of new prospects in the agri-food sector. The results are convincing because Alpha MOS now equips 30 of the 100 largest agri-food groups in the world (compared to 20 in 2020) with its sensory analysis solutions.

  • of instrument sales in 2021 are therefore first sales to new customers.

The electronic nose is the instrument of 2021 growth:

In 2021, the electronic nose is in the spotlight because it represents 65% of instrument sales.

Investments were continued in the technological developments of hardware and software. A new model of electronic eye, the Iris Smart Vision, specialized in the quality control of roasted food products (hazelnuts, walnuts, coffee, etc.) was launched in the middle of the year.

Anticipation and forecasting have made it possible to optimize logistics and transport:

Anticipation of the crisis in electronic components made it possible to avoid stock shortages. Delivery times were improved in 2021: the average delivery time for a Heracles electronic nose was reduced from 26 days on average in January 2021 to 18 days in December 2021. Alpha MOS is able to absorb a strong growth in its activity in 2022 while maintaining the level of operational performance.

In 2021, Alpha MOS was recognized as one of the world’s leading players in sensory analysis:

Alpha MOS has been recognized for the quality of its solutions / service by several magazines: CFi (Capital Finance International) has recognized the company as “Best Sensory Analysis Solution Europe 2021”. Food & Beverage Technology Review ranked Alpha MOS among the “Top 10 Food Automation and Manufacturing Europe 2021”.

Alpha MOS is at the forefront of MedTech thanks to the research carried out by its subsidiary BOYDSense:

The development of a prototype of a non-invasive detector of the blood glucose level in the breath was continued. The technology and progress of this project have been rewarded by obtaining a grant from the European Union in the amount of €2.5M, following an extremely competitive selection process.

In parallel, a second campaign of clinical tests was launched with the Toulouse University Hospital to obtain new data to improve the performance of the algorithms used to calculate the blood sugar level during a breath measurement.

Alpha MOS, ambitious objectives for the year 2022:

For its Foodtech activity, Alpha MOS wishes to:

  • Pursue its strategy of deploying instruments among the major agri-food manufacturers by adding the quality control component;

  • Accelerate the development of the service sales model (related to the sale of instruments);

  • Strengthen the distribution network in order to increase commercial coverage in countries where Alpha MOS does not sell directly;

  • Maintain a double-digit growth rate and a very high customer satisfaction rate.

On the Medtech side, Alpha MOS wants:

  • Accelerate the development of algorithms thanks to the results of the clinical test campaign launched at the end of 2021.
