Alpine emergency – night operation during thunderstorms and heavy rain

Exhausted and only lightly clad, a 34-year-old holidaymaker from Baden-Württemberg had to be rescued from the Watzmann-Südspitz descent in a thunderstorm and heavy rain.

Due to the inadequate clothing, the woman was already at the beginning of hypothermia. She was also visibly exhausted, she had been on her feet since 6 a.m. On the descent, she fell several times and scraped herself. Four companions managed to descend to the Grieshütte and called the emergency room from there. Meanwhile, a strong thunderstorm with hail came down, which the woman and her companions had to survive in the open air on the Watzmann. Around three o’clock, the woman arrived in the valley with the help of the rescue workers. After an emergency medical examination, she did not have to be taken to the hospital.
