What our giant slalom specialists present before the World Cup kick-off in Sölden is really ready for a movie. The German doc director Amelie Stiefvatter accompanied the giant Swiss team for half a year with a cameraman. The finished 8-part series, which, according to Stiefvatter, will also run on Netflix after the premiere on Red Bull TV, is entitled “Bending Gates”. The main actors are Marco Odermatt and Loïc Meillard.
Gino Caviezel interprets a considerable supporting role together with Justin Murisier. The scene in which “Odi”, Justin and Gino in the team bus clearly analyze their disappointing performance in the World Cup giant slalom is particularly worth seeing. “That was one of the scenes that amazed me when I saw the finished film for the first time,” admits Caviezel. “The film crew went about their work so inconspicuously that I often didn’t even notice that the camera was near us. The end result of this documentary is correspondingly authentic. Really cool!”
In the first act of this series, Cavizel is also reminded of his greatest success in his career to date – in the last Sölden giant, the younger brother of speed specialist Mauro (33) succeeds in making the leap to a World Cup for the first time in third behind Lucas Braathen and his friend Odermatt. «Stockerl».
Better material thanks to the Kristoffersen descent
Last but not least, the strong development in the material sector suggests that Gino will deliver the next big hit on Sunday. “In this area I was able to benefit enormously from Loïc Meillard,” says Caviezel. «Loïc and I ride the same material. Until last winter, our supplier focused more and more on Henrik Kristofferson. But because Loïc was fourth in the overall World Cup ahead of Henrik, we were more responsive to our wishes in the last glacier training sessions. ”
Despite the promising prospects for the Olympic winter – one topic really pisses the 29-year-old up. «I decided to have the corona vaccination. But I have trouble with vaccinated people pointing reproachfully at people who do not want to be vaccinated. Freedom of expression and tolerance are particularly important to me. Unfortunately, a lot of people have lost their tolerance in the last year and a half. “
