The Advent wreath is simply part of the Advent season and increases the anticipation of Christmas. It doesn’t always have to be the classic wreath of fir green and pillar candles: Here we have selected the most beautiful Advent wreath alternatives for you.

An Advent wreath at Christmas time has a long tradition: a new candle is lit every Sunday in Advent. The traditional Advent wreath is made of fir branches, fitted with candle holders, decorated and completed with four candles. But if you want to try a new interpretation, there are many alternatives available. From upcycling ideas to candlesticks made from bottles to the Advent spiral – we’ll show you the best ideas here on how you can alternatively design your Advent wreath.

A notice: For Advent wreaths self-extinguishing candles/safe candles use. The candles contain a safety system where the candle at the bottom goes out. As a result, the wick cannot tilt to the side or continue to burn downwards. Nevertheless, never leave candles burning unattended and, if necessary, have a fire blanket or water ready!

Advent wreath from nature

This alternative to the conventional Advent wreath can be made in no time at all and is no less effective! The tree disc gives the Advent wreath a rustic flair and is particularly suitable for country-style furnishings. In addition to the tree disc, you also need eucalyptus leaves, candles, small decorative stars for decoration and, if you want, a filigree chain of wooden letter cubes can of course display the number of the candle.

Advent wreath made of espresso cups

This idea is as simple as it is ingenious: Four espresso cups, floral foam, four stick candles and some moss – that’s all it takes to compete with the conventional Advent wreath. The numbers can be painted on with stickers or a ceramic pen.

Upcycled Advent Wreath

Upcycling at its best! Here, old bottles were sprayed with matt varnish, decorated with white permanent marker and finally used as candlesticks. A black and white cord gives the bottles a playful look.

Advent wreath made of screw-top jars

You always have screw-top jars at home: old jam jars or sauce jars. Wash them out thoroughly and use them for your top-class DIY Advent wreath. Decorated with a few twigs and cords, tea lights are wonderful. The only thing missing is a suitable place to put it: a tree disc, a pretty board or a bowl could be a good idea here.

Advent spiral as an alternative to the Advent wreath

An Advent spiral is a spiral that can be made from salt dough, wood, modeling clay or clay. There are 24 hollows in the spiral into which either nuts, glass stones, marbles or candles can be put/placed every day. You can easily make them yourself by z. B. form a spiral out of salt dough and then press in wells with balls or candles: Note: The Advent spiral will get a little smaller as it dries, so make sure to press in the wells a little bigger/wider. You can then use dampened fingers to smooth out the surface of the salt dough before letting it dry.

Danger: If you want to put 24 small candles in the Advent spiral, you have to make a larger spiral with a little space between the depressions, otherwise the candles will be too close together and melt each other. You should also be careful: salt dough burns! So never leave the candles burning unattended and use self-extinguishing candles.

Tip: Here you can find out how to make salt dough yourself.
