Am I entitled to it in 2024, if I have only had housing since March 2023?

The energy check has been sent since April 2 to the lowest-income households, to help them pay their energy bills. What conditions must be met to be eligible? MoneyVox responds to Alinou, who questions his right to receive an energy check this year.

Question from Alinou, April 11, 2024

Hello, I have only had accommodation since March 2023. Am I entitled to the 2024 energy check?

Hello Alinou, thank you for your question. The energy check is aid paid to the most modest households, which ranges from 48 to 277 euros. It can be used to pay energy bills, or certain energy renovation work. To benefit from it, you must meet several criteria: reside in France, not exceed a certain amount of income and, in rarer cases, apply for it. We take stock below.

1- Residing in France

First condition to respect, reside in France. The simulator specifies the date of January 1, 2022, but the situation taken into account to determine the new beneficiaries this year is that of January 1, 2023confirmed a toll-free number advisor (1) set up by the administration to provide information on the energy check.

To benefit from an energy check in 2024, you therefore had to be the owner or tenant of private or social housing on January 1, 2023, or be a sub-tenant of housing through rental intermediation (2)or even reside in a social residence (3). Unfortunately, Alinu, if you have only had your own accommodation since March 2023, you will therefore only potentially be eligible in 2025.

2- Do not exceed an income ceiling… and declare it

Second imperative, have completed your income declaration (even without being taxable) and have a 2022 tax reference income (RFR) of less than 11,000 euros per unit. The RFR is calculated based on income and the number of people in your household. You will find the bar below.

Will you be able to claim a 2024 energy check?
The composition of your householdYour 2022 RFR (on the 2023 tax notice) must not exceed…
Single person11000
Couple without children16500
Couple with 1 child19800
Single-parent family with 1 child16500
Couple with 2 children23100
Single parent family with 2 children19800
Couple with 3 children26400
Single parent family with 3 children23100

MoneyVox calculations, based on the official bar.
The rule on chequeenergie.gouv.fr: the first person in the household counts for 1 consumption unit (CU), the second for 0.5 CU and the following for 0.3 UA.
These thresholds only concern your eligibility; for the fixed amount of the energy check for your household, you must use the detailed scale per consumption unit or the official simulator.
