"You look suspicious," a security guard recently told Amanda Gorman. The poet tells of the sad "reality of black girls".

Her appearance at the inauguration of US President Joe Biden (78) made poetry slammer Amanda Gorman (22) an icon. The sad thing is that the young woman, who speaks out against racism and discrimination in her texts, was the victim of a similar incident on Friday (March 5th). She reports on Twitter: "A security guard followed me on my way home tonight. He asked if I lived there because 'you look suspicious'." The 22-year-old then showed her key and entered the building with it. "He left without apologizing."

According to Gorman, this reflects "the reality of black girls". She goes on to refer to her own story: "One day you are called an icon, the next day you are called a threat." The 22-year-old says she can make friends with the latter term. She says that in a way the security guard was right. "I am a threat," writes the poet, "a threat to injustice, inequality and ignorance. Anyone who speaks the truth and walks with hope is an obvious and great danger to those in power."
