Amateur athletes allowed to deviate from the ten kilometer rule

Amateur athletes can rejoice. They will now be able to derogate from the ten-kilometer rule to join a sports facility and train in a stadium located in their department or in a border department, at a maximum of thirty kilometers, Agence France-Presse (AFP) has learned. Amateur sport can currently continue outdoors, if it is contactless: football training, for example, for both adults and minors, continues. However, the curfew at 7 p.m., currently in force everywhere, must be observed.

Indoor sports activities (martial arts, basketball, handball, etc.) are still prohibited, for minors as well as for adults. Clubs and associations are encouraged by the government, especially with regard to minors, to offer variations of their sport outdoors, for example to organize boxing sessions in the open air.

The number of licensees in free fall

Only professional athletes, high level athletes, people in vocational training, as well as the supervision necessary for their practice, can practice without restrictions and are authorized to waive the curfew. The first national confinement had brought professional sport to a halt in France. Ligue 1 football, the Top 14 rugby, in particular, could not go until the end of the season.

About fifteen indoor sports federations had alerted, on February 25, during a joint press conference, about their difficult situation. Estimates from the Ministry of Sports show a possible loss of 25% of turnover over the year for the entire sports sector in France, professionals and amateurs.
