Amazon: acquisition of iRobot for 1.7 billion dollars

(CercleFinance.com) – The American e-commerce giant Amazon announced on Friday the acquisition of iRobot, the maker of the Roomba robot vacuum cleaner, for an amount of 1.7 billion dollars.

The Seattle group says it plans to offer $61 for each share of the consumer home robotics company, whose stock price closed at just under $50 a share last night.

In a press release, Amazon says it appreciates the innovative capacity of iRobot, a company from Bedford (Massachusetts) which launched the Roomba robot vacuum cleaner in 2002 before marketing the Braava floor cleaning robots.

Colin Angle is expected to remain in his role as iRobot’s general manager.
