June 13 (Reuters) – Amazon.com Inc said on Monday it will test drone deliveries in the town of Lockeford, California this year, a first for the U.S. company’s consumer customers.
This project follows several pilot programs from other companies such as Walmart Inc, United Parcel Service Inc and FedEx Corp.
Amazon said it was working with the Federal Aviation Administration and city authorities to obtain the necessary permits.
The drones will have the ability to fly beyond visual line of sight and will be programmed to “drop” packages into customers’ gardens.
