Amazon credit card: installment purchase for all purchases from 100 euros now possible

Amazon VISA cardholders can now pay for all purchases of 100 euros or more in monthly installments. Sometimes even interest-free.

Landesbank Berlin is currently informing the owners of the Amazon.de VISA card by e-mail that installment purchases for Amazon purchases from a value of 100 euros are now available for the first customers. However, the email we have received also says: “Please note that the new function for completing an installment purchase at Amazon.de will be activated for all customers within the next few weeks.” It is also expressly pointed out that there are no longer any Amazon point credits for hire purchase sales.

This is how the Amazon.de VISA installment purchase works

To use the new function, the Amazon VISA card must be selected as the payment method during the Amazon ordering process. The field “Installment purchase available” is then displayed. In addition to a one-off payment, you can choose between installment purchase terms of 3, 6, 9 or 12 months. In the case of an installment purchase with a term of 3 months, no interest is charged, with all other options an effective annual interest rate of 8.99 percent applies, with early repayment being possible at any time.

As a further special feature, it is possible to subsequently convert any purchase already made on Amazon into an installment purchase. To do this, the user must log in to the Amazon.de VISA app (available here for Android and here for iOS) or at amazon.lbb.de. In the case of an Amazon purchase with a turnover of 100 euros or more, it is then possible to convert it into an installment purchase.

Still unclear: How long will the Amazon credit card still exist?

It remains unclear how long Amazon will continue to cooperate with Landesbank Berlin (LBB) on the Amazon VISA credit card. It was already announced in November 2021 that the partnership would expire at the end of 2022, as we reported in detail here.

The Amazon credit card offers a number of advantages: As a Prime customer, you get three points per euro (equivalent to 3 percent) with every use, including for payments made outside of Amazon (then 1 point for every 2 euros in sales). The points can then be redeemed for purchases at amazon.de.

If you currently want to apply for the Amazon.de VISA card, you will receive the message “The application is currently not available” on this Amazon website.
