Amazon Echo Show: Turn off the display – this is how it works

HOW DO I USE AMAZON ECHO AND VOICE ASSISTANT ALEXA?

If the display of your Echo Show disturbs you at night or you want to reduce the power consumption of the device, you can switch off the smart screen on demand or automatically. That’s how it’s done.

Even if you don’t need your Echo Show to check off a shopping list or stream Netflix, the smart display remains active. This can be perceived as annoying for a number of reasons:

On the one hand, the constantly changing displays on an Echo Show don’t necessarily make it easier to fall asleep in the same room, on the other hand, the running display of the Echo Show continues to consume electricity at night or when you’re away from the apartment.

Turn off the display with an Alexa command

Luckily, an Echo Show’s screen can also be easily turned off without having to unplug it. The fastest way to do this is with a voice command: Just say “Alexa, turn off the display” within earshot of the desired Echo Show and Amazon’s voice assistant snaps off the screen.

If you don’t always want to turn off the Echo Show’s screen manually before going to bed and still want to save on electricity costs while you sleep, we recommend automating the process via the Alexa app. Netzwelt explains step by step how you can set one up in a flash:

In another tutorial we will explain how you can use the Echo Show as a television.
