  • Unlike its predecessors, the 3rd generation Amazon Fire TV Cube has a USB-A port.
  • The problem: So far, the connection switched off together with the streaming cube and connected devices with it.
  • A software update should now solve the problem and ensure the continued operation of the devices.

The Fire TV Cube 3 is the new streaming flagship in Amazon’s Fire TV portfolio and, in addition to some changes in design, also comes with a large number of connections – including for the first time: a classic USB-A port. Everything from the gigabit adapter for Ethernet to the Bluetooth receiver for the keyboard can be connected to it.

However, the 3rd generation Fire TV Cube always switched off the USB port when it went to sleep. This was an annoyance for some users – because anyone who used the said USB connection for a keyboard, which is also supposed to wake the Amazon cube from slumber mode, was deprived of his control and had to use the remote control.

According to the specialist blog AFTVNews, however, the problem has now been solved: Amazon is said to have already implemented a software update that prevents the USB socket from being switched off by the Fire TV Cube.
