Sad news for Amazon employees: the American giant will again carry out a massive job cut.

While we have just learned that the French operator Orange is planning to cut several hundred jobs, Amazon has just formalized a new social plan which will concern several thousand employees.

Several thousand positions (again) deleted at Amazon

Last January, Amazon announced the most massive layoff plan in its history. In the space of a few weeks, nearly 20,000 positions were eliminated within the company. As a reminder, many tech players have made major layoffs in recent months, including Google, Apple and Meta. He could also announce a new job cut plan in 2023.

After the loss of 18,000 jobs since last November within the premises of Amazon, the e-commerce giant will now part with 9,000 additional people. The job cuts will mainly concern the cloud division (Amazon Web Service), the Twitch platform, advertising and the human resources department.

To be able to invest again, Amazon says it has to lighten up…

In a memo sent to staff today, Andy Jassy, who is none other than Amazon’s chief executive, said: The overriding principle of our annual planning this year was to be leaner while doing so in a way that allows us to continue to invest vigorously in key long-term customer experiences that we believe can significantly improve the lives of customers and Amazon as a whole”.

Faced with a global economic slowdown, technology companies are now suffering the consequences of the many recruitments made throughout the period of the pandemic. In total, no less than 27,000 jobs have been eliminated at Amazon in the space of a few months. Let’s hope from now on that this will be the last wave of layoffs…
