Amazon Prime could soon be expanded by 4,000 titles from the MGM film studio – the mail-order giant is toying with a takeover.

According to media reports, Amazon is currently about to take its biggest step to date in expanding in the entertainment sector: The online giant is therefore considering buying the MGM Holdings film studio. This is reported by the tech website “The Information” citing an insider. Accordingly, Amazon and MGM have been negotiating a price between seven and ten billion US dollars for weeks.

The film studio of the roaring lion includes the James Bond franchise as well as the Rocky and Terminator series as well as series such as “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “Fargo” as well as classics such as “Ben Hur” or “Doktor Schiwago”. Around 4,000 titles would belong to Amazon if it took over the almost hundred-year-old film studio.

MGM is one of the few Hollywood studios that is not part of a large corporation and, like the entire industry, is suffering financially from the pandemic. News of a possible sale has been circulating for months. As the “New York Times” reports, MGM has set a sales price of nine billion dollars – too much for the previous interested parties, Apple and Universal, as it was called.
