A choice certainly gargantuan, but in which it is easy to get lost when looking for content to spend a good evening. Fortunately, Digital has selected for you the 10 best movies to watch right now on the platform.
This article is updated regularly with the best of the streaming service, as well as our latest crush. This month, this one is ad astra by James Grey.
What are the best movies to watch on Amazon Prime Video?
Ad Astra
Astronaut Roy McBride ventures to the far reaches of the solar system in search of his missing father and to solve a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. During his journey, he will be confronted with revelations questioning the very nature of human existence, and our place in the universe.
When James Gray, the director behind Lost City of Z And Two Lovers, tells us about a spatial and existential adventure, we have to be there. Not very far from 2001, a space odyssey by Stanley Kubrick Ad Astra offers stunning images and jaw-dropping sequences to better tell an intimate story about the father-son relationship and the fate of mankind. Brad Pitt, sober and silent, is masterful, well helped by a cast of prestigious supporting roles (Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, Ruth Negga). Grand.

Eyes Wide Shut
Invited to a party, Dr. William Harford and his wife Alice are, each on his own, the subject of attempts at seduction. Both resist the temptation. However, the next day, Alice admits to her husband that she once thought of cheating on him and now regrets not having taken action. Shaken by this revelation, William flees and begins a night of revelations.
Ultimate film by the master Stanley Kubrick (2001, a space odyssey, shining, Full Metal Jacket), Eyes Wide Shut is a feverish and intoxicating dive into the intimacy of a couple, and into the dark machinations of our world. An erotic thriller that deals with secret societies, desire, marriage and social conditioning with the captivating Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman couple at its heart, with a mad magnetism. A masterpiece.
Gladiator
The Iberian Roman general Maximus is Emperor Marcus Aurelius’ staunchest supporter. Jealous of the former’s prestige, the latter’s son, Commodus, brutally seized power, then ordered the general’s arrest and execution. Maximus escapes his assassins, but cannot prevent the slaughter of his family. Captured by a slave trader, he becomes a gladiator and plots his revenge.
Ridley Scott (Alien, blade runner) signs one of the last great peplums of cinema, a great epic fresco where men, duty, honor and war intersect in a tragic and dazzling tapestry. If he is remembered for his impressive fight scenes or Hans Zimmer’s music, Gladiator also draws its aura from the strength of its screenplay and the feverish and charismatic interpretation of Russel Crowe in the title role. A huge movie.
Wildcat
The story of a young army veteran who left for the Amazon. There, he meets the director of an animal shelter and rehabilitation center. Her life finds new meaning when she is entrusted with the existence of an orphaned baby ocelot. What was meant to be an escape from everyday life becomes an adventure filled with love, discovery and healing.
This documentary on the true story of Harry Turner, a young man bloated by depression and PTSD, is moving. Combining archive images and those shot by the protagonists themselves, Wildcat is an intimate and poignant portrait, an inspiring story that will bring you to tears. If the movie takes a little while to take off, it does eventually pick you up in its second half. A beautiful little-known story that reveals a lot about how we deal with our demons and save ourselves. A little nugget.
The Green Knight
King Arthur’s unruly nephew (Dev Patel) has the audacity to volunteer to take on the Green Knight, a mysterious giant that has appeared in Camelot. Risking his head, he embarks on an epic adventure to prove himself to his family and the court.
In contrast to a classic knight legend, The Green Knight tells the story of a fallible, cowardly and resolutely human hero. Signed by David Lowery (A Ghost Story), this adventure film like no other combines Celtic folklore, its mythology and its creatures, with an astonishing narrative and mind-blowing scenes of beauty and poetry. A sublime adventure that may confuse some, but which is worth the detour, if only for its unique atmosphere.
prisoners
In the suburbs of Boston, two 6-year-old girls, Anna and Joy, have disappeared. Inspector Loki favors the thesis of kidnapping following the testimony of Keller, Anna’s father. Suspect number 1 is quickly arrested, but is released a few days later for lack of evidence, enraging Keller…
A crime film, nervous, harsh and tense, signed by the talented Denis Villeneuve (Dunes, First contact), definitely has a place in this list. The Canadian director interweaves the points of view of a father and a policeman on a dark story of kidnapping, which reveals all its darkness minute after minute. In line with a David Fincher, prisoners is an opportunity to savor the performances of an exceptional cast: Hugh Jackman, Jack Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano… A safe bet and a great psychological thriller.
Matrix
A hacker named Neo discovers that reality is just a huge simulation created by the Matrix, enslaving the human species.
It is without a doubt one of the most important films of the last three decades. Simultaneously a technological revolution, a thrilling action film and an innovative universe, Matrix is above all of considerable thematic richness. The Wachowski movie (CloudAtlas, Sense8) questions our relationship to technology, our humanity and society in a visionary work that has marked generations. If these sequels are less convincing, this first film remains a timeless classic.
Matrix, Matrix Reloaded And Matrix Revolutions are available on Prime Video.
Parasite
The entire Ki-taek family is out of work and takes a keen interest in the lifestyle of the wealthy Park family. One day, their son manages to get recommended to give private English lessons to the Parks. This is the beginning of an uncontrollable spiral, from which no one will truly emerge unscathed.
Signed by Bong Joon-ho (Memories of Murder, Okja), one of the best directors working, this social thriller is part family drama, part caustic critique of our society, part class struggle, and much more. Parasite is a film of a rare thematic richness, which seizes by its brilliant writing and its inspired realization not to let you go. Simply one of the great films of the 21st century, winner of the Palme d’Or and four Oscars.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
In search of a sacred idol in the middle of the Peruvian jungle, the adventurer Indiana Jones narrowly escapes an ambush set by his toughest adversary: René Belloq. He finds himself mandated by the secret services, curator of the National Museum in Washington, to get his hands on the Medallion of Ra, in the possession of his former lover Marion Ravenwood. This Egyptian artifact would lead to the Ark of the Covenant, the very one where Moses kept the Ten Commandments, and which the Nazis covet.
Like a good wine, the films of the Indiana Jones saga have improved in quality over the years. What to dive back into the first adventure of Indy (Harrison Ford), the one that started it all, an effective cocktail of action, adventure and humor. Behind the camera, Steven Spielberg shapes his cult hero with mastery, strings together crazy scenes around the world, inflated by the intoxicating music of John Williams. A small happiness of film, to see and see again.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
The young hobbit Frodo Baggins inherits a ring. It is the One Ring, an instrument of absolute power that would allow Sauron to reign over Middle-earth and reduce its peoples to slavery… Unless Frodo and his faithful companions manage to transport the Ring to to Mordor, where it was forged, and to destroy it forever.
This adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s cult work, although reputed to be unsuitable, is a success in every way. In addition to redefining the modern blockbuster and fantasy film, director Peter Jackson does the original work justice with his respect for the characters and the accuracy of his writing. Above all, it opens up the visual horizons of a universe of unequaled richness, and connects marvelous scenes, sequences of crazy poetry and galvanizing moments. The first part of the trilogy is the little favorite of Digitalbut the two sequels are obviously unavoidable.
