With Freevee, Amazon offers a second streaming service in addition to Prime Video. This will soon be over, Freevee is simply no longer worth it.

With IMDb Freedive, later also IMDb TV, Amazon offered a free streaming service financed by advertising as early as 2019. In 2022, the offer came to Germany under the name Freevee and has since been available on the Amazon website, even though Freevee actually runs independently of Prime Video.
Adweek now claims to have learned from several sources that Freevee will be discontinued in 2024. Amazon has already denied these reports, but it wouldn’t be the first time that a company has issued a false denial before the rumors come true. In any case, experts are certain: the end of Freevee has come!

In principle, Freevee was worthwhile for Amazon because the advertising continued to generate income. By integrating it into the Amazon Prime Video interface, it was also hoped that Freevee viewers would eventually take out a Prime subscription.
But Amazon Prime Video now also shows advertising with a regular subscription and therefore earns twice, on the one hand through the advertising revenue and on the other hand through the regular subscription costs. It will be more worthwhile for Amazon if Freevee disappears and at least a fraction of the Freevee audience switches to Prime Video.
Since Freevee has no subscribers, Amazon would not have to announce the end of the streaming service long in advance. Freevee’s own productions like “Bosch: Legacy” or “Jury Duty” would probably simply end up in the Prime Video program.
