Amazon Prime Video: The "Watch Party" function is now also available in Germany

With the "Watch Party" function on Prime Video in Germany you can watch films or series with family and friends.

Watching films or series with family, friends or acquaintances despite partial lockdown due to the corona crisis? This is now also possible with Amazon Prime Video. With the new "Watch Party" function, groups can watch content together, even if they are not in the same place.

Prime members can start the social viewing experience as hosts via the desktop or participate in a "Watch Party" via an invitation link. There are no additional costs. There can be up to 100 participants per party. Small catch: every party guest must have a valid Prime membership.

That's how it's done

The host selects a film or series. Then click on the "Watch Party" symbol and share the corresponding link with the participants. Playback is synchronized and controlled by the host. A chat function is also available.

Other streaming providers lure their customers with similar features. The so-called "GroupWatch" function has been available at Disney + since the end of October. The playback is also synchronized here. Participants can comment on individual scenes using emojis, for example.

Thanks to browser extensions such as "StreamParty", a joint film or series evening is also possible with Netflix or YouTube. The best known extension of this kind is probably "Teleparty", which became known as the "Netflix Party".
