Amazon: ring sensor warns when window is smashed

At the CES, Amazon’s subsidiary Ring presented a gadget that is supposed to protect against burglary. The ring alarm glass breakage sensor is noticeable when it hears the sound of shattering glass in its vicinity. According to Amazon, this works up to a distance of 7.6 meters (25 feet) between the glass pane and the glass breakage sensor.

The Ring Alarm Glass Break Sensor is a small puck in the style of a smoke detector that can be installed on flat surfaces – such as the wall, the ceiling or a cupboard. He listens for breaking glass, according to Amazon, the AI should reliably detect such noises and distinguish them from broken dishes, for example. If glass actually breaks, the gadget either reports a notification on the linked cell phone or speaks to a separately purchased ring alarm siren. The glass breakage sensor does not need a permanent power connection.

In order for the glass break sensor to work at all, it must be combined with a ring alarm set. The glass breakage sensor costs 45 euros separately and will be delivered from February 16, Amazon promises. You cannot order it yet, but you can register on the Ring website for notification of availability. Amazon itself offers an alternative to the glass breakage sensor: Alexa-based smart home speakers can also use Alexa Guard to listen for broken glass. The Ring Alarm glass break sensor is Amazon’s only hardware announcement from the technology fair CES 2022.
