Amazon: the return time for electronic products drops by half from April 2024

Half the time to return certain types of products purchased online is the sad news for Amazon buyers located in Europe.

In an article published on March 8, Spiegel explains that the American giant contacted sellers on its platform last Wednesday to announce that the return period would be reduced from 30 to 14 days.

This new policy, coming into force from April 25, will concern all types of electronic devices (PCs, smartphones, cameras, routers, etc.). Please note, Amazon still wants to keep some advantages on its own products, by maintaining a 30-day deadline for TVs, streaming boxes and tablets in its Fire range.

However, the online sales giant is not stopping there. In fact, it also addresses returns of video games, Blu-Ray DVDs, CDs and office supplies by also reducing the period to 14 days.

Even more restrictive, the return of these products may be refused by the company if they have been opened. Indeed, removing the packaging/blister of these products does not oblige Amazon to take them back, and therefore to issue a refund.

This does not however concern electronic devices, which can always be taken out of their packaging in order to be tried by buyers before being returned. “It is not necessary to indicate a reason, or even to have the original packaging. But nothing must be broken,” reports Spiegel after interviewing IT lawyer Alexander Bräuer.
