Amazon wants to train professionals in generative AI

Amazon offers free training and scholarships to people hoping to build a career in generative AI. The e-commerce giant on Monday announced three initiatives aimed at helping workers and students learn about new artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and business models.

As part of a program called “AI Ready”, Amazon provides:

  • 8 new free courses on AI and generative AI;
  • an AWS Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (ML) Scholarship Program for more than 50,000 high school and college students around the world, with access to a new generative AI course on Udacity;
  • a collaboration with code.org to train students in generative AI.

8 new free courses

The eight new courses, made available free of charge, cover both the skills required of developers and technicians, as well as those necessary for managers and non-technicians. Please note: most courses are currently only available in English.

Before adding these new courses, Amazon Web Services already offered 80 courses on generative AI, some free and others at affordable prices.

Here is the list of new courses for technical professionals:

  • Foundations of Prompt Engineering (the foundations of prompt engineering) introduces how prompts work, explains how to design inputs, and goes further to demonstrate advanced prompt design techniques.
  • Low-Code Machine Learning on AWS (machine learning in low code on AWS): shows students how to prepare data and how to train and deploy machine learning models. It is aimed at people with minimal coding skills and who do not necessarily have in-depth knowledge of machine learning.
  • Building Language Models on AWS (build language models on AWS) explains how to use Amazon SageMaker distributed training libraries to build language models, and how to optimize open source and base models.
  • Amazon Transcribe Getting Started explains how to use Amazon Transcribe, an AI platform that converts speech into text using automatic speech recognition technology.
  • Building Generative AI Applications Using Amazon Bedrock learns how to use Amazon Bedrock to build generative AI applications.
  • Amazon CodeWhisperer: Getting Started Guide (available in French) teaches how to use Amazon’s CodeWhisperer AI-based code generator to create entire lines of code.

For managers and non-technical professions, the following courses are available:

  • Generative AI for executives (available in French) is an introductory course in generative AI. It introduces the technology, its applications and important concepts, including its foundations.
  • Generative AI Learning Plan for Decision Makers (learning generative AI for decision-makers) is a series of three courses that explains how to plan a generative AI project and prepare your organization for this technology.

A scholarship in generative AI

Through the AWS Generative AI Scholarship program, AWS will offer $12 million in Udacity scholarships to more than 50,000 high school and college students from underrepresented communities around the world.

Free for eligible students, the new Udacity course Introducing Generative AI with AWS explains the concepts of generative AI and includes a hands-on project. Upon completion of the course, students receive certification from Udacity.

Collaboration with Code.org

Finally, a new collaboration between Amazon Future Engineer and Code.org will challenge students to create their own virtual music video using tracks from artists like Miley Cyrus or Harry Styles. For the Hour of Code Dance Party: AI Editionparticipants will code the virtual dancer’s choreography and use emojis as AI assistants to design animated backgrounds.

The goal is to teach students about large language models, and explain how they are used in predictive analytics that generate images and text.

Hour of Code will begin during Computer Science Education Week, December 4-10, for K-12 students and teachers. To support the event, AWS will also offer $8 million in AWS Cloud Credits to Code.org.

Necessary skills

As generative AI has revolutionized the professional world, artificial intelligence skills are increasingly necessary and demanded of workers.

A study by AWS and research firm Access Partnership found that AI will become increasingly essential for businesses, with 93% planning to use AI-based technologies over the next five years. coming years.

To meet these needs, 73% of companies say hiring workers with AI skills is currently a priority, even though most are unable to find the right people. For professionals who learn the necessary skills, employers expect them to earn up to 47% more.
