After a statement by Amber Heard in the defamation trial against Johnny Depp, dark clouds seem to be gathering over the 36-year-old. Because the legal team on the other side accuses her of lying under oath about a donation.

On the third day after the trial break, the legal team of Johnny Depp, 58, again put Amber Heard, 36, on the witness stand – with success. Because they seem to be able to prove to the actress that she lied in a statement under oath.

Amber Heard is said to have broken his divorce agreement with Johnny Depp

In the 2016 divorce process, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp agreed to a $7 million settlement that would be awarded to the actress immediately after the divorce. After receiving the money, however, Heard should not use and donate this sum for his own purposes, but for charitable purposes. After receiving the sum, Amber chose two fundraising goals, including the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union. Amber has repeatedly sworn, even under oath, that the $7 million fundraiser had met the fundraising goal – but Depp’s legal team now seems to be able to refute this.

Heard admits she hasn’t donated the money yet

When questioned during the defamation trial, Amber finally admitted that she had not yet fulfilled the divorce settlements as promised. According to the 36-year-old, the culprit was that Johnny sued her in 2019 for 50 million US dollars (equivalent to around 47 million euros), reports “Daily Mail”. However, Depp’s legal team should be able to refute this statement. Amber received the money well before the said lawsuit. Nothing should have stood in the way of the donation.

Is Amber now facing a perjury trial?

If the legal team can finally refute Amber’s testimony in court, the actress could face a perjury trial, an expert told the Daily Mail. He can also imagine that the statement is already being investigated: “Even if the donation is not the focus of the case, perjury is the greatest threat and goes to the heart of our justice system, so the police could be asked to investigate to show that any member of the public who lies to the court can be prosecuted for perjury”.
