The additional cost of the AM5 in question
Indeed, the release of the first processors in the range – from the Ryzen 5 7600X to the Ryzen 9 7950X via the Ryzen 7 7700X and Ryzen 9 7900X – was handicapped by the additional cost of the AM5 platform.
In order to integrate numerous technical innovations, AMD felt obliged to swap the aging AM4 for this more modern AM5. With the platform, AMD has thus taken it into its head to support DDR5 memory as well as PCI Express 5.0.
Stated objective: to return to the race against Intel, which has supported these new features for more than a year, since the release of Alder Lake. Problem, this has a cost and the X670/X670E chipset as well as the B650/B650E result in expensive motherboards to which must be added the price of DDR5.
$125 motherboards?
In fact, and even if AMD has already lowered the price of its processors, the Ryzen 7000s are suffering from Intel competition. The pricing of Intel platforms has often been criticized, but AMD was in an even more delicate situation. The brand could, however, get out of the rut.
Videocardz explains that the release of a third AM5 chipset is imminent. More economical, it must reduce the price of the cards and various models are already mentioned by our colleagues: the ASUS TUF Gaming A620M-PLUS D5 and five Gigabyte (A620M D3H, A620M DS3H, A620M S2H, A620M H and A620M K).
As you will have understood, the chipset in question is the A620 and we hope that it will allow AMD to keep its old promise of AM5 motherboards at 125 dollars. On the other hand, do not expect innovative cards: PCI Express 5.0, for example, should not be required.
