AMD continues its policy of openness around its tools and technologies grouped in FidelityFX.

The company recently announced that FidelityFX SDK (Software Development Kit) 1.0 is now available for download for everyone, making famous tools like the FSR open source and easier than ever to integrate into games.

AMD tools like open books

In radical opposition to NVIDIA on its technologies such as Ray Tracing: Overdrive or DLSS, its competitor AMD continues to adopt a policy of great openness. Its flagship FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling technology is a good example of this, since developers on Xbox Series have access to it and its third iteration will be open source at launch.

This is now the case for the entire FidelityFX SDK 1.0 package, which can be downloaded by anyone, in particular on AMD’s blog post on the subject, cited in source below, or on a dedicated GitHub page, also cited below. In addition to the well-known FSR in its versions 1 and 2, this suite includes the following tools and technologies:

  • AMD Fidelity FX Blur 1.0;
  • AMD FidelityFX Depth of Field 1.0;
  • AMD FidelityFX Lens 1.0;
  • AMD FidelityFX COCOA 1.3;
  • AMD FidelityFX CAS 1.1;
  • AMD FidelityFX LPM 1.3;
  • AMD FidelityFX Parallel Sort 1.2;
  • AMD FidelityFX SPD 2.1;
  • AMD FidelityFX SSR 1.4;
  • AMD FidelityFX Denoiser 1.2;
  • AMD FidelityFX Variable Shading 1.1;
  • AMD FidelityFX Hybrid Reflections 1.1;
  • AMD FidelityFX Hybrid Shadows 1.1.

Tools that are easier to integrate than ever

Not content with making these numerous tools available (including some completely new ones like Blur, Depth of Field and Lens), AMD also intends to ensure that integration into games is as simple as possible.

FidelityFX SDK 1.0 is thus intended to be highly “user friendly”, notably by offering pre-built solutions for all of these elements, most of which can be supported with less than 20 lines of code. The more seasoned will however be able to rework all this at their convenience, in a much more ergonomic way thanks to AMD’s optimizations in this direction.

The FidelityFX SDK suite is thus available in a complete package weighing the relatively modest weight of 3.2 GB. AMD thus undoubtedly scores points for democratizing its proprietary technologies. And that’s without counting on privileged partnerships with major studios, as is the case for Starfield.
