The fight between the two processor giants seems to be experiencing a “renewal of form” and AMD intends to get ahead of Intel.
Zen 5, AMD’s new micro-architecture, is on everyone’s lips as Intel has begun to deploy its “revolution” on laptops (Meteor Lake) and the next step concerns desktops (Arrow Lake).

A release in May/June?
Relayed by our colleagues from HotHardwarethe latest rumors – therefore to be taken with a certain perspective – indicate an acceleration of AMD’s timetable for a launch window closer to us.
Indeed, according to High Yield, a well-known informant in the AMD world on X.com (formerly Twitter), AMD is now considering a launch of Granite Ridge chips for the middle of the year and, more precisely, during the months of May or June 2024. A date which is not the result of chance: it would fit with Computex 2024 which is held from June 4 to 7.
Better, such a launch would allow AMD to have a good lead over Intel and to undoubtedly dominate the sector for a few months before the release – rather scheduled for September/October – of the Arrow Lake chips.
Socket AM5 and DDR5-6400
Nothing official at the moment, but the Granite Ridge processors would logically be called Ryzen 9000 and, AMD has been very clear about the longevity of its platform, they would retain the AM5 socket.
The question of the chipset still arises while everything suggests that the AMD 600 series will be perfectly compatible: we do not yet know if AMD has planned a 700 series for the new processors. On the other hand, we know that the engraving technology is a variant of TSMC’s N4 and that the number of cores should not change.
Of course, the nature of the cores (Zen 5 therefore) will be a clear improvement compared to the Ryzen 7000 that we know today. DDR5 should also progress to support the 6400 against the 5200 today, which would not be illogical since AMD has already spoken of a sweet spot for DDR5-6000 on the Ryzen 8000G.
It is still early to say, but several observers like to imagine that Granite Rdige will still be an opportunity to increase the number of instructions per cycle while AMD has never made a secret of its intentions in this area. Finally, after Computex 2024, AMD could wait until CES 2025 to unveil the Granite Ridge with X3D technology.
