AMD launches its DLSS rival on Xbox Series X∣S and Windows PC

The FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 is coming to Xbox Series X∣S consoles. Announced last year, the partnership between AMD and the gaming branch of Microsoft will take shape with the second generation of the technology which makes its appearance in the development kit for XBox games.

Thing promised, thing due. Almost a year after announcing the arrival of FidelityFX Super Resolution on the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, Microsoft is finally keeping its word.

Greater loyalty

Jason Ronald, director of Program Management, made his announcement on Twitter. The next graphics performances of consoles hit by the X will therefore be able to rely on AMD’s advances in terms of overall resolution fidelity thanks to super sampling.

Excited to continue to partner with @AMD and @GPUOpen to provide the latest techniques in graphics performance to game developers on both @Xbox and PC. #FSR 2 samples are now included with the GDKX for @Xbox developers. https://t.co/rDHv8Jnbfx

AMD’s technology will integrate the newcomers well, but on the other hand, it will be with the second generation of the FSR. This technology makes it possible to craft sharper images from lower resolution scenes. It is in some way equivalent to Nvidia’s DLSS and also aims to bring images to the best rendering without sacrificing the frame rate.

According Windows Centralthe FSR2 could mitigate certain compromises often made to run 4K/60 fps, or even improve the image quality of the Xbox Series S.

FSR2 is first available to developers. The technology was thus added to the Xbox and Windows PC game development kit.
