AMD already offered graphics cards covering both extremes: the high end, with its Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT, and the entry level, with its 7600 XT. Still, there’s been nothing to chew on between the two so far, as competitor Nvidia covers the whole spectrum with its GeForce RTX 40s.

Two new graphics cards on the program

Things are changing today, as the Radeon RX 7700 XT and 7800 XT have just been announced; players will therefore have a few more options to build a new configuration. With these two new GPUs, AMD is clearly targeting the 1440p definition, which is increasingly adopted, while 1080p remains the majority and 4K constitutes a niche reserved for the most demanding players.

The RX 7700 XT has 12 GB of VRAM and delivers a bandwidth of 432 Gb/s for a consumption of 245 W. As for the RX 7800 XT, its bandwidth is 624 Gb/s and its consumption is 263 W. both cases, the consumption as the bandwidth are superior to the competitors GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070.

Performance to play in 1440p

Some figures have been released by AMD. We should be able to play comfortably at 60 fps (frames per second) in 1440p in many games, even if only a few titles have been announced as The Last of Us, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Hogwarts Legacy And Modern Warfare 2. According to the manufacturer, the RX 7700 XT offers 15-20% more performance than the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, and notably 26% increase in cyberpunk (even if the results vary widely from one title to another, sometimes even in favor of the 4060 Ti).

The RX 7800 XT was compared to the RTX 4070 and the results are even more fluctuating, but many games in the featured panel run better with the Radeon, which delivers 26% more fps in cyberpunk, to name but one. A rather interesting observation, even if AMD was careful not to compare its cards to the RTX 4070 Ti, which is perhaps an admission of weakness against it.

The price is in any case interesting, but especially for the most efficient of the two it must be admitted. The RX 7700 XT can be found from €489 and the RX 7800 XT from €550. Prices to put into perspective with 4060 Ti released at 439 € and 4070 at 650 €. In parallel with these announcements, AMD also unveiled its FSR 3 after several months of waiting, enough to play with a very solid gain in fps in the future.
