Computex 2022 was indeed an opportunity to present – summarily – the future of processor desktop according to AMD.
AMD kept its promise and, at the opening of Computex 2022 in Taipei, its CEO, Lisa Su, took the floor to present some of the new features to come, with a particular emphasis on the Ryzen 7000 series.
More than 5 GHz on the clock
Expected for weeks, the formalization of the new generation of Ryzen CPUs has therefore taken place and, with it, that of the new AM5 platform intended to replace the aging AM4.
Lisa Su confirmed that the Ryzen 7000 series will be the occasion to introduce the new Zen 4 architecture, indicating that we can expect a 15% increase in the number of instructions per cycle compared to the Zen 3 architecture.
Zen 4 will also be an opportunity to double the amount of L2 cache integrated into the processor (512 KB to 1 MB) and there is talk of considerably increasing the maximum operating frequencies with a boost ranging from ” well beyond of 5 GHz.
Zen 4 and iGPU cores
Like previous generations, the Ryzen 7000 series will be processors multi chips composed of two Zen 4 CCDs and a “controller” core responsible for the inputs/outputs. The CCDs will be engraved in 5 nm while the controller will be in 6 nm.
If Lisa Su did not go into detail, she mentioned the integration of a maximum of 16 Zen 4 cores on the most powerful of the Ryzen 7000 series, as well as a graphics solution (iGPU) based on the RDNA 2 architecture to bring it up to Intel Core.
Finally, she hardly clarified the release schedule for the Ryzen 7000 series, contenting herself with a meager ” fall 2022 “. A date which also concerns the AM5 platform, which will be the subject of a separate news on Clubic in order to return to the support for DDR5 / PCIe 5.0.
