Last December, an unofficial ranking placed AMD on the podium of the partners of the Taiwanese foundry TSMC. Today, we have confirmation that this position will be maintained for many months.
20,000 wafers per quarter at the end of 2022
Taiwanese sources do specify that with the release of its new Zen 4 processors (Ryzen 7000), AMD has pushed to validate many orders exploiting TSMC’s 5 nm node.
If the information lacks a bit of precision and does not detail the shares of each company on this 5 nm node, it is however clear that AMD will be TSMC’s biggest customer on this technology alone.
AMD hopes to be able to reach production of 20,000 wafers over the whole of the last quarter of 2022 and if he does not give any figures for 2023, we can assume that he still intends to ramp up.
This domination of AMD on the 5 nm does not come as a surprise, however. In addition to the Ryzen 7000 processors which should constitute the heart of its offer in 2023-2024, the American is also preparing RDNA 3 GPUs.
