AMD announced its FSR 3 a while ago, when it announced the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and XT in November 2022, but since then its generative imaging technology has remained rather muted. Perhaps it took some time for the manufacturer to refine its copy, and it must be said that it is expected at the turn against the DLSS 3 of competitor Nvidia, which has already proven itself for almost a year. From now on.

As a reminder, the frame generation allows you to drastically increase the number of frames per second (fps) in game by inserting additional images generated by artificial intelligence between two real images. In some cases, DLSS 3 thus makes it possible to double the in-game fps, which is particularly interesting for demanding titles loaded with raytracing such as Cyberpunk 2077.

New graphics cards and a big boost in fps thanks to the FSR 3

AMD took advantage of the announcement of its two new RX 7700 XT and 7800 XT graphics cards to unveil its FSR 3, but did not give many figures. We would have liked to have a panel of games presented to have an idea of the capabilities of this FSR 3. Forspoken, the first game to integrate techno, was given as an example: by activating FSR 3, the game goes from 36 fps to 122 fps in “performance” mode — with a small loss in quality compared to “quality” mode —, but the result is excellent. To see in practice in games that we will test in the future.

The FSR 3 will be available on the Radeon RX 7000, but also on previous generations, and even for graphics cards from Nvidia and Intel, primarily on Forspoken therefore, but also Immortals of Aveum. Many games should follow in the coming months of course, but nothing has been said for Starfieldwhich will however arrive on September 6th.

Hypr-RX for even better performance

AMD had also teased the Hypr-RX technology a few months ago and it was presented: in one click, it will be possible to optimize a game by reducing its latency and slightly increasing the number of frames per second , all thanks to a set of three technologies that already exist, but this time brought together to work together: Radeon Super Resolution, Radeon Anti-Lag+, and Radeon Boost. AMD goes so far as to announce 50% more performance in certain games, Fortnite having been cited, but this figure should be taken with a grain of salt: the result may be much lower on other titles.

Surprising news, AMD was able to integrate its image generation fluid motion frames directly to its Hypr-RX technology. Therefore, all Direct X11 and 12 games will be able to benefit from the frame generation – and therefore a big boost in fps – without the developers having to integrate the FSR 3 into their games. A big advantage over DLSS and great news for gamers, especially those whose PC configuration is starting to date. That said, we’ll have to wait until the first quarter of next year to learn more about this integration.
