The National Assembly and the Senate adopted Thursday the second part of measures in favor of purchasing power, that which concerns the budget, with 292 votes for and 120 against. The government benefited from the support of the Republicans and the abstention of the RN, while the left voted against. What lessons can we draw from the adoption of the first text of this quinquennium?
It is the conclusion of three weeks of fierce debates and compromises with the right: the National Assembly definitively adopted Thursday the second part of the package of measures in favor of purchasing power, before the Senate at the end of the day. It was the first test for the government and its relative majority, responsible for the first time in five years, to find compromises with the oppositions.
Republicans rejoice
The main political force that has made itself heard is Les Républicains, behind many amendments on the 30-cent rebate at the pump or the launch of a biometric vital card, for example. They have won their case many times. Enough to satisfy Véronique Louwagie, LR deputy for Orne.
“The Republican deputies were able to have a large number of important measures adopted and played a decisive role in the service of the purchasing power of the French people. Finally, this text is no longer a government text, it has become a text of Parliament strongly inspired by the proposals and demands of the Republicans and I am delighted and we are delighted,” she said.
A success for the government
She is immediately accused by the other oppositions of being only an auxiliary of the government. The RN deputies abstained. A way of indicating that the text did not go far enough for their taste, while displaying itself as a responsible opposition.
It is therefore a first successful test for the government and this new fragmented Assembly. Even if the texts presented at the start of the school year, on the various budgets in particular, will give more clues to the possibility or not for Emmanuel Macron to govern with a relative majority.
