American Airlines: quarterly net loss of $312 million

(CercleFinance.com) – American Airlines publishes operating income of $12.57 billion for the 1st quarter, up 3.1% compared to the same period a year earlier.

However, at the same time, the company saw its operating expenses increase by 6.9% to reach $12.56 billion.

Consequently, operating profit was limited to $7 million in the 1st quarter, showing a decline of 98.5% year-on-year.

The company thus had to deal with a net loss of $312 million in the 1st quarter, whereas it had recorded a gain of $10 million twelve months earlier during the same period.

EPS thus stands at -$0.48, compared to +$0.02 in the 1st quarter of 2023.

‘Even though we are not satisfied with our first quarter financial results, we have solid foundations and we remain on track to achieve our financial objectives for the full year,’ assured Robert Isom, CEO the company.
