The program of the day on the French side
In addition to surfing (Jérémy Florès and Michel Bourez) and skateboarding (Vincent Milou and Aurélien Giraud), several disciplines are on the program today at the various Olympic venues with many French athletes involved and chances of medals! In swimming, the first charms will fall overnight and the young Léon Marchand hopes to make a place on the podium in the 400m medley. In table tennis, mixed doubles Emmanuel Lebesson-Jia Nan Yuan will try to win a place in the last four.
Six fencers are engaged this Sunday, including Yannick Borel (epee) and Ysaora Thibus (foil). In judo, France will be represented today by Kilian Le Blouch (- 66 kg) and Amandine Buchard (- 52 kg), reigning European champion. This Sunday also marks the first events in canoeing and sailing (notably with Charline Picon). Without forgetting badminton, with in particular the mixed doubles Delrue-Gicquel, but also the continuation of the tennis tournaments (with Gaël Monfils, Alizé Cornet, Fiona Ferro and Carolina Garcia), shooting and rowing events as well as the race in line in road cycling for women.
Later this Sunday, team sports will take center stage. The French football team will try to make up for it against South Africa at 10 a.m. KST after their initial loss to Mexico (1-4), when one of the highlights will take place in 2 pm, with the shock of the first round of men’s basketball, France-United States. The Blues had won in the last clash against the Americans, in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Worlds (79-89). The case promises to be more complicated against Durant, Lillard and others. The French women’s handball team begins its tournament against Hungary at 2:30 p.m. KST.
