The Salzburg Ducks footballers are represented in the top division for the first time. The preparations for the season are in full swing.
For the first time in ten years, the football stronghold of Salzburg has a first division team again: As the reigning Silver Bowl Champion of Division I, the Ducks are eligible for promotion and will compete in the top division, the Austrian Football League (AFL), in the 2022 season. The preparation for the Mozartstädter’s debut season is already in the final phase, as chairwoman Christine Gappmayer reports: “The AFL will be a huge challenge for us, both athletically and organisationally. We are in the last few talks that we can play in Maxglan again next season. We have already sold a lot of season tickets, which means that of course we need more staff and a larger budget. ”The management for the new season has already been fixed, the successful team around head coach Nicolas Johansen will remain with the Salzburgers. The roster is also almost certain, only the import players are not yet. The Ducks are allowed to name three imports for the AFL season. The contract with quarterback Kristopher Denton was extended for two years, with two others in final negotiations. After the league reform and the increase from six to ten teams, Salzburg can take it easy. So that the new teams can establish themselves, there will be no relegation in 2022. “To give everything in every game” is the declared goal for chairwoman Gappmayer for the premiere season starting in March.
