Summer is now here! Holidays by the sea or by the pool are fast approaching. If you start to think about waxing the bikini line, you may be hesitating about which shape to choose. There are a multitude of them from the Brazilian jersey to the metro ticket and the whole. The American bikini line is a form of hair removal for the semi-full bikini line. So, it seems to be a very good alternative for those who like a rather indented shape, but do not appreciate having no hair on the pubis.
What is the American jersey?
As the name suggests, the American jersey is very popular with Americans. It is a standard, rather classic depilation of the semi-full bikini. The American bikini line consists of depilating the lips, the gluteal groove and the pubis, leaving only a small strip of hair in the middle. The American jersey resembles the shape of the metro ticket, but much thinner.
We also find the Hollywood type jersey. In this case, we remove all the hair from the lips, the inter-gluteal fold and the pubis. So it's just a different name for the full jersey.
What are the other forms of bikini hair removal?
Hair removal from classic jersey consists of simply epilating the hairs that protrude from the bikini, so we epilate above the pubis and on the sides at the groin.
The subway ticket is an epilation of the semi-full bikini. We remove the hair on the side and the top of the pubis as well as the lips, the inter-gluteal sulcus and we simply leave a little hair in the middle. This takes the form of a rectangle the size of a metro ticket, hence its name.

The notched Jersey involves depilating the hair on the sides of the pubis and in the groin area but not in the middle or on the lips.

Can we shave the jersey?
It is possible to shave which removes the hairs from the bikini line quickly and painlessly. It is true that this area of the body can be particularly painful. However, shaving has a few drawbacks. First, micro-cuts. It is therefore important to prepare the skin for shaving by moistening it and applying a shaving foam or gel. Moreover, this technique is not effective over time since the hairs will grow back after a few days. Thus, it will be necessary to shave several times a week.
Hair removal is therefore the preferred technique for a hairless bikini for several weeks.
How to depilate the bikini line?
There are several techniques for waxing the bikini line, using wax, using an electric epilator or using a laser.
Waxing can be done in a beauty salon by an esthetician but also at home. For the depilations of the Brazilian, American jersey, metro ticket or even the whole, it is best to call on a professional, especially because it is a sensitive area. The esthetician will have the right gestures for gentle and clean hair removal.
If on the other hand you are experienced or you opt for the high-cut or classic swimsuit, you can use the wax at home. You can use strips of wax which you warm up by rubbing your hands. We pull on the tongue to move the two strips of wax away and we apply to the area to be epilated by massaging in the direction of the hair. Then remove with a sharp blow in the opposite direction of the hairs.
You can also use hot wax with a wax heater to melt it or by simply using a microwave oven. The hot wax opens the pores, the hairs can then be removed more quickly and efficiently. It is therefore to be preferred for a more gentle hair removal. Apply the wax using a spatula to the area to be epilated, then use the strips of fabric provided to remove the wax by pulling in the opposite direction of the hair.
If you have trouble using the wax but want your hair to stay clean for up to 4 weeks, the electric epilator is a good option. It can be painful because the jersey is a sensitive area. However, the hairs become thinner as the hair removal takes place or even disappear. The technique is therefore less and less painful. The device has one or more rotating heads with several small integrated tweezers that remove the hair. Just pass the epilator over the areas to be epilated and voila! Prefer an epilator with a cold applicator and special sensitive area heads for a more gentle epilation of the bikini line.
The laser is a technique for permanent hair removal of the bikini line. Before the session, the parts to be epilated are shaved, which will be exposed to the laser. During the session which is carried out by a professional in an aesthetic clinic or a beauty salon, the laser is passed over the area to be epilated. The hairs grow back and fall out. Over the course of the sessions, they are increasingly fine until they no longer regrow. It takes about 6 to 8 sessions, the service costs between 75 and 200 euros depending on the form chosen.
Pulsed light is not recommended for sensitive areas such as the bikini line, it is therefore reserved for the legs and armpits.
What precautions should be taken before and after hair removal?
For waxing or electric epilating, it is important to have the skin of the area to be depilated clean and dry. You can even use a little talcum powder to remove moisture. To avoid ingrown hairs and facilitate hair removal, a scrub is carried out the day before or two days before. After waxing, you don't forget to moisturize your skin with a moisturizer.
For laser hair removal, shave the area to be epilated beforehand using a foam or shaving gel, preferably antibacterial. After depilation, the skin is generally hydrated using a standard cream. Biafine. We continue to apply it for a few days after the session to keep the skin hydrated and soft.
