American rocker and actor Meat Loaf dies aged 74

His tenor tone had dynamited American rock at the end of the seventies. Singer Meat Loaf has died at the age of 74, sad news announced in a message posted on a Facebook page. “It is with a broken heart that we announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf is gone tonight, his wife Deborah by his side“, can we read. “His daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends have accompanied him throughout the past 24 hours.“.

Born Marvin Lee Aday in Nashville, Texas, Meat Loaf owed his stage name (“Meatloaf” in French) to a nickname he was given as a child, because of his imposing physique. After participating in the show The Rocky Horror Picture Show, in 1975, he met the composer Jim Steinman with whom he wrote the album beat out of hell, a rock opera which after having put off the record labels because of the length of its songs, will sell more than 43 million copies worldwide.
