Born Marvin Lee Aday in Nashville, Texas, Meat Loaf owed his stage name (“Meatloaf” in French) to a nickname he was given as a child, because of his imposing physique. After participating in the show The Rocky Horror Picture Show, in 1975, he met the composer Jim Steinman with whom he wrote the album beat out of hell, a rock opera which after having put off the record labels because of the length of its songs, will sell more than 43 million copies worldwide.
