American woman killed live on Instagram, suspect arrested

A man has been arrested in Louisiana after the murder of a 34-year-old American woman, killed live on Instagram.

Earl Lee Johnson, Jr. was arrested Monday in Louisiana. This 35-year-old man is accused of killing Janice David, a 34-year-old woman. The crime was broadcast live on Instagram. Sergeant L’Jean McKneely, Jr., of Baton Rouge, said the victim was strangled, beaten and stabbed. His body was discovered Monday evening inside a car parked in a parking lot. It was people connected to live on the social network who reported the video to Facebook, which owns Instagram, which then alerted the police. “Afterwards, he tried to set fire to the car” in which the young woman was, indicated the sergeant.

The video was about 15 minutes long and followed more than three hours of “continuous drug use,” he continued. “Apparently they were involved in drug use together for a few days and the end result – as everyone saw on Facebook Live – is this horrific and very evil act.”

Suspect Johnson was arrested Monday in an unrelated auto theft case, in which he was allegedly injured during a chase with police. He later admitted to the murder when questioned, reports WBRZ. The victim’s cousin reacted to the case to WAFP, calling the story “truly horrific”. “She didn’t deserve to die like that, nobody deserves that. When they said she was dead, I thought she died in a car accident or something. I would never have imagined that someone would do this to him,” she added. Earl Lee Johnson, Jr. is no stranger to justice. He was convicted of armed robbery in 2007 and sentenced to 15 years behind bars.
