Market researchers have identified the 5 most popular cell phones in the USA, India, China, Germany, Japan, South Korea, France and Great Britain. The study shows different preferences.

The market researchers at Counterpoint Research have created the top 5 best-selling cell phones in 2023 for eight countries. The sales figures refer to the month of October and also provide an insight into the different tastes for smartphones in the individual countries.
What is noticeable in Germany is the tendency towards high-priced devices. With the iPhone 15, the iPhone 14, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro as well as the Samsung Galaxy S23, only devices with a recommended retail price of 800 euros or more are in the top 5.
In Germany only high-priced devices at the front
This is only the case in France, South Korea, Great Britain and Japan. In the USA, India and China, significantly cheaper devices also rank in the top 5 – in the USA, for example, the Galaxy A14 5G, in India the Xiaomi Redmi A2 and in China the Honor X50.
While the small iPhone 15, followed by its equally compact predecessor, the iPhone 14, leads the sales charts in October in Germany, the large models iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro are at the top in the USA and Great Britain.
South Korea is Samsung country, Japan loves Apple
In most countries, the top five are largely dominated by Apple. Exceptions are Samsung’s home country of South Korea and India. There, only one or two Apple models make it into the top 5. In the other countries there are significantly more. South Korea is also the only country where an iPhone is not the best-selling smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 takes first place here.
Another special feature: South Korea is the only country where a foldable device makes it into the top 5 of the sales charts. There is no home game bonus for Sony in Japan. The Land of the Rising Sun is the only one of the eight surveyed where the top 5 consists exclusively of iPhone models.
