Asobo Studio and Microsoft discover the charms of the province through a beautiful update for flight simulator.

After years of absence, the franchise flight simulator returned in August 2020 for a fairly prodigious opus featuring over two petabytes of data volume and cities modeled by photogrammetry for an unprecedented level of detail.

More than ten “world updates”

Alas, despite a development studio – Asobo Studio – based in Bordeaux and unprecedented means, the modeling of French cities could leave something to be desired and your obligee has long regretted the treatment inflicted on his beloved city of Nantes.

Since the game was released on August 18, 2020, Asobo Studio and Microsoft have of course offered multiple – free – updates and significantly increased the game’s content. From the East Coast of the United States to New Zealand, from From the archipelago of Malta to the advanced photogrammetry of Japan, no less than 12 world updates have reviewed and corrected countless regions of the world.

Enthusiasts were also able to count on the precise modeling of German cities (Bielefeld, Brunswick, Frankfurt-am-Main, Constance, Wuppertal), Australian cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide, Perth, Cairns, Darwin, Villeville , Mackay, Bunbury), Canadian (Halifax, Sherbrooke, Abbotsford, Saskatoon, Toronto, Montreal, Regina, Calgary, Victoria, St. Catharines, Laval, Vancouver), Iberian (Lisbon, Barreiro, Malaga, Bilbao, Cascais, Coimbra).

On the other hand, for France, it was necessary to be satisfied with the update France and Benelux certainly interesting, but not varied enough. Paris was the only city in France to take advantage of photogrammetry and if unmissable monuments (the Eiffel Tower, the Château de Chenonceau, the Parc des Princes or the Millau viaduct) made their entrance, one could doubt the scope of Fort Boyard For example.

Five local towns!

Asobo Studio and Microsoft have therefore finally changed their tune and thought of something other than Paris to represent France. The publication of City Update II: France logically makes it possible to discover the cities of Amiens, Angers, Nantes, Nîmes and Reims.

A visit to Amiens will be the opportunity to admire the largest Gothic cathedral in France, while Nantes alternates between the old (the castle of the Dukes of Brittany) and the most recent (the Brittany Tower). Further east, Angers is revealed, in particular, through its famous medieval castle. Of course, a visit to Nîmes allows you to admire its arenas, while in Reims, you will particularly seek out its famous cathedral.

Particularly topical at the moment, Paris-Le Bourget airport, which is celebrating the return of its lounge, is benefiting from a complete modeling and Microsoft has decided to celebrate French aviation with an iconic device, the Latécoère Model 631 which flew for the first time on November 4, 1942 and remains today one of the most imposing seaplanes ever built.
