Amira Pocher grew up without a biological father and only saw him again as an adult. The result: As a child, Oliver Pocher’s wife sought confirmation from other men.

“I had such a crush on my girlfriends dads and always wished it was my dad.” In the current podcast episode of “Die Pochers!” gives Amira Pocher, 30, a deep look. When she was three years old, her birth father left the family. For 20 years, until they met again in Egypt in 2018, the two had no contact. Growing up without her father, comedian Oliver Pocher’s wife felt like “hell” had come true.

Amira Pocher “always looked for father figures as a child”

In her podcast episode, the controversial topic “Men who become fathers again in old age” comes up on the table. Current example: Hollywood legend Al Pacino, who at the age of 83 is happy to have children for the fourth time. This causes Amira Pocher to shake his head because Pacino will probably no longer experience some major milestones. “The child has to grow up without a father,” says the mother of two sons. For Amira herself, this circumstance was “hell”, she felt it was “not nice at all” to “grow up without a father”.

An experience that took its toll. Oliver Pocher’s wife collected “confirmations from men” and “always looked for father figures as a child”.

Amira wanted to be close to male teachers, school psychologists and directors

Amira continues: “I had such a crush on my girlfriends’ dads and I always wished it was my dad. My teachers, the male school psychologists, [der] Director – I’ve always sought to be close to them, in the form of conversations.” She was “looking for a male reference person” – an absolutely unpleasant experience that she “really doesn’t wish for any child”.

It wasn’t until March 2018 that Amira and her biological father, who lives in Egypt, saw each other again. On Instagram, the former make-up artist and hairstylist had the emotional reunion with the words “This is what it looks like when you see your father again after more than 20 years!!” documented.

Difficult relationship with her mother’s partner

Amira Pocher grew up with her brother and single mother in Klagenfurt, Austria. Her mother’s new husband took over the father role. The 30-year-old said about him in an interview with RTL in 2019: “We didn’t always get along well. Then there were often situations where it escalated and then it just didn’t work anymore.” Amira also contributed to this, she was not a perfect child.

Amira Pocher found shelter in the crisis intervention center

Amira Pocher spoke again about this difficult time in 2020. On her podcast, she recalled, “I was prepubescent and we [der Mann ihrer Mutter und sie] didn’t get along so well, so when I was thirteen or fourteen I often ran away or was thrown out.” She even spent nights in youth night shelters. At the age of 15, Amira Pocher moved out and found shelter in a crisis intervention center.
