Among the Parisian ecologists of the Base, the combativeness against “two candidates without climatic ambition”

While the next five years will be decisive for the climate, activists are worried about the Macron-Le Pen poster in the second round of the presidential election. Faced with the glaring lack of ambition of the two candidates in environmental matters, they will increase the pressure.

On the evening of the first round of the presidential election, the tears of environmental activists flowed to the Base. In this haunt of associations committed to the environment and social justice, nestled in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, the results have appalled more than one. “I still believed in it a little, we were not far from having the climate in the second round”, regrets Audrey Landon, director of the Movement, in reference to the score of Jean-Luc Mélenchon. Back to reality: young people are abstaining significantly and the far right is getting more votes than the environment, a theme that is not central to either of the last two candidates in the running for the next five-year term. Among activists, the responsibility of the outgoing government, accused of having trivialized nauseating ideas, is singled out. The lack of time given to environmental issues during the campaign is also part of the grievance.
