A bacterial infection called Neisseria meningitidis

Within 24 hours of eating the food, the kidneys of the young man let go then his blood begins to clot. The results of the analyzes show that the student suffers from meningococcemiaa disease caused by bacteria in his blood called Neisseria meningitidis. His immune system reacts, Doctor Bernard explains: “When bacteria are present in the blood, blood vessels throughout the body dilate and then blood pressure drops, preventing oxygen from entering the organs.»

Even if the doctors manage to stabilize his condition, the lack of oxygen causes a necrosis of certain tissues. The 19-year-old eventually develops a gangrene which will oblige the doctors to amputate it of his fingers as well as a bilateral amputation below the knee. Although they don’t know exactly how the food could have been contaminated, one thing is certain, the bacteria spread quickly through the saliva. Today the student is very fortunately recovering and his state of health has been stabilized.
