Are you planning to rent an Airbnb to organize a big party this December 31? This is not necessarily a good idea…
Since 2020, Airbnb has implemented various measures aimed in particular at limiting (as much as possible) unauthorized parties. For guests, it is the assurance of not seeing their accommodation transformed into a giant party hall, for a birthday, a bachelor/hen party, or even for the end-of-year celebrations.
At Airbnb: the bamboche is over
Indeed, with a view to reducing the risk of unauthorized parties, Airbnb has notably tightened the platform’s rules and deployed a dedicated algorithm, which analyzes potential risk factors for parties via multiple indicators relating to the tenant’s account. The tool then takes care of blocking suspicious reservations, in order to protect the host.
The act of reserving accommodation on the evening of December 31, by an unknown user of the platform, will in particular be considered suspicious. The same goes for tenants who are going to make a rental request for accommodation located near their own home.
The “anti-party” system returns to Airbnb
According to Airbnb: “ The aim of this system is to identify requests to reserve one, two or three nights of entire accommodations presenting a higher risk of disruptive parties “. Tenants will also have to agree to sign a certificate, reminding them of the strict ban on organizing parties in Airbnb accommodation.
Failure to comply with the rules could result in users having their Airbnb account suspended or even deleted altogether. Last year in France, the system made it possible to block (or redirect) no less than 28,000 customers.
Please note that owners also have the option of canceling reservations without penalty if they consider that a rental presents a risk. Guests in France also benefit from the free provision of a noise detector, allowing them to monitor the sound level within their property.
Since its implementation in 2020, this series of measures would have allowed the Airbnb platform to reduce unauthorized parties in the accommodation offered by the platform by around 55%.
