The retail giant launched its very first chatbot based on artificial intelligence technology this weekend.

With the advent of ChatGPT, there are now two clubs among large companies: those who offer an in-house chatbot, and those who have not yet joined the fashion of the moment. And at Carrefour, we decided to be among those present in the sector, relying on OpenAI technology.

Say hello to Hopla

A chatbot powered by AI? That’s what everyone wants today. And right now, not only GAFAM, or their Chinese equivalents of BATX, but also social networks like Snapchat or TikTok are setting up conversational agents. A revolution that is progressing quickly, and even crosses our border, since Carrefour has also just got started by installing a chatbot called Hopla on its website.

Based on ChatGPT, Hopla is able to offer shopping lists based on the particularities of the user. You can thus calibrate your request by specifying your budget, the number of people in the household, and the number of days covered by your food purchases. An ideal tool especially in this period of inflation.

The chatbot becomes an assistant cook

But that’s not the only use of Hopla. The chatbot can also offer recipes from what you already have at home, adding additional products that need to be acquired if necessary. And as noted BFM-TVthe AI is able to offer a number of recipes adapted to all types of dietary restrictions.

What will change the mode of operation of large retailers? This is what the boss of Carrefour, Alexandre Bompard, affirms in any case: “ This is undoubtedly the beginning of a revolution and a transformation of our professions, our organizations, the way we talk to our customers. And even if Hopla is still in the learning phase, you can go and test it now!
