If you have already followed a stream on Twitch, you have undoubtedly heard of the Stream Deck, this very popular accessory from the Elgato brand. As its name suggests, it is an accessory to assist the stream during their live broadcasts by giving them quick and customizable controls at their fingertips. It is a popular and very powerful tool, in particular for its ability to adapt to the installations and configurations of each and everyone.

Competition never hurts and it’s Razer who comes to challenge the industry giant with the announcement of the Stream Controller. A product that incorporates functions of the Stream Deck, but with real features that are rather welcome.

Shortcuts of all kinds

Where the Elgato Stream Deck is content to offer customizable shortcuts with its small LCD screens, the Razer Stream Controller goes further in its design. There are 12 touch screen buttons with haptic feedback on a 4 x 3 grid, but also 8 numbered programmable buttons below and 6 analog sliders on the sides.

As with the Stream Deck, you will therefore be able to assign shortcuts such as a scene change with one of the buttons in the center. The analog sliders on the sides will be very practical for making quick adjustments to the volume of the different sources: your microphone, the browser or the game in progress. The eight buttons under the screens are designed to switch from one workspace to another. For example, switching from your OBS shortcuts to video editing shortcuts for YouTube.

The connection to the PC is via a 2 meter USB-C to USB-A cable. Razer promises compatibility with macOS and Windows through the installation of the Loupedeck software.

If you are a connoisseur of the sector, the design of the device will inevitably remind you of Loupedeck, a Finnish manufacturer who has been successful on the Indiegogo platform several times. The brand had announced an investment from Razer in September 2021. A merger that seems to have paid off.

Loupedeck’s management software offers a gallery of plug-ins to personalize the product experience. Razer also promises integration with Twitch, OBS Studio, Streamlabs, Spotify, Voicemod and editing classics (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Audition, etc.).

The Razer Stream Controller is available from July 14, 2022.
