Apprehended by the police in Yvelines, in Vélizy-Villacoublay, an Amazon subcontractor, required to leave France, notably stole around a hundred PS5 consoles (PlayStation 5), for a loot estimated at 100,000 euros.

The main suspect may not have had any gift ideas for Christmas this year, so he decided to get his hands on some PS5 loot, the Sony console that just passed the 50 million copies milestone sold. On December 20, 2023, the individual, an Amazon subcontractor transporter, was arrested in Vélizy-Villacoublay. In his truck, the police discovered around a hundred new PlayStation 5s, worth 30,000 euros. At his home, the police came across a bigger loot.

The stolen PS5s were in the back of the transporter’s truck

The driver was arrested after reporting to the police the suspicious and regular disappearance of packages during the month of December, a report directly issued by security officials at the site where the goods were to be stored. Investigators reacted immediately when they discovered empty boxes in the Vélizy-Villacoublay warehouse.

The police then searched the suspect’s truck, discovering 30,000 euros worth of PS5s and other objects behind the seats. This find then led the police to search the trucker’s home, located in Grigny in Essonne.

There, investigators got their hands on a variety of stolen items, ranging from computers and perfume to monitors and vacuum cleaners. On site, the police found no proof of purchase. Everything appears to have been stolen. But the story doesn’t end here.

Heavy damage caused by two individuals who were forced to leave France

A second individual, presenting himself as the cousin of the transporter, was arrested. Like his friend, he is 28 years old. Like his friend, he is originally from Tunisia. His role was to assist his “cousin” in his flights.

The two individuals, who were under an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF), caused damage estimated at 100,000 euros. In addition to the OQTF and their misdeeds, investigators discovered that the transporter did not hold a driving license, which obviously raises questions about the selection of subcontractors.

The circumstances surrounding the disposal of the stolen goods remain, for the moment, unknown. The thieves should be brought to justice this Friday, December 22 in the evening.
